What is Order Defect Rate?

ODR

The share of your orders that ended in a defect the marketplace counts against you, such as a negative feedback, a claim, or a payment dispute. It is one of the metrics most likely to put selling privileges at risk.

Why it matters in practice

Order defect rate is a ratio, which means it moves fastest when order volume is low. A seller doing modest volume can cross a threshold on a handful of bad orders, while the same number of problems is invisible at scale, so a slow month plus a few defects is a genuinely dangerous combination. The inputs are mostly downstream of operations rather than marketing: late or damaged deliveries, items that do not match the listing, and unresolved buyer messages. The one worth watching closely is payment disputes, because those often reflect something that happened before the customer ever contacted you, and by the time they show up the chance to fix the order privately is gone.
