Listings
What is Backend Search Terms?
A field on a listing that holds keywords for the marketplace to read but never shows to a shopper. It exists so you can cover spellings, synonyms and use cases that would read badly in the visible copy.
Why it matters in practice
This field is where operators put the words that belong on the listing but not in the copy: common misspellings, regional names for the same object, and the phrasing a beginner would use rather than the industry one. It matters because a shopper who searches for something you sell but never see the results of is invisible to you, and the visible copy can only carry so many phrasings before it reads like a machine wrote it. A worked example: a listing for a garlic press adds the words a shopper might type when they do not know the product name, such as crusher and mincer, so those searches can reach the page while the title stays clean. Repeating words already in your title wastes the space, since the marketplace already read them there.
