What is Sponsored Products?

Amazon's pay-per-click format that promotes a single listing inside search results and on product pages. It is the workhorse of most Amazon ad accounts because it meets a shopper at the moment they are already looking for the thing you sell.

Why it matters in practice

Sponsored Products is where most sellers start and where most of the spend stays, because the intent is already there and you are paying to be earlier in a decision the shopper had begun anyway. It matters that the ad shows the listing itself, which means ad performance is capped by listing quality: a weak main image or a thin title will convert badly no matter how well the campaign is built, and you pay for every click on the way to finding that out. In practice the account is a loop rather than a setup, where automatic campaigns surface real searches, the winners graduate into tighter targeting, and the losers become negatives. Worth knowing: eligibility depends on being the offer a shopper can add to the cart, so losing the Buy Box can stop ads serving entirely, which looks like a campaign problem and is really a pricing or stock one.
